To create a safe and vibrant atmosphere that celebrates Black culture, nurtures community, and opens real pathways to economic opportunity — one cup, one conversation, one connection at a time.
Kevin & Ronyale Smith.
“Blak Koffee didn't start as a business plan. It started as a belief — that Louisville's West End deserved a space where community, culture, and commerce share the same table.”
Together, Kevin and Ronyale Smith built Blak Koffee Cafe into more than a coffee shop. It is a living, breathing expression of what a neighborhood gathering place can be when it is rooted in love, purpose, and genuine service to community. Two West End locations, thousands of daily conversations, and one shared mission: to uplift everyone who walks through the door.

Ronyale Smith.
Blak Koffee Cafe was founded by Ronyale Smith — a visionary entrepreneur, community builder, and creative force dedicated to creating spaces where culture, connection, and opportunity thrive.
What began as a love for coffee and meaningful conversation grew into a larger mission: to build more than a café. Ronyale envisioned a welcoming environment where people from all walks of life could gather, feel inspired, and experience genuine community — blending exceptional coffee with purpose, creativity, and culture.
Known for her warmth, authenticity, and passion for empowering others, Ronyale has built Blak Koffee into a destination that reflects the spirit of Louisville while celebrating Black excellence, entrepreneurship, and togetherness. Her leadership is rooted in the belief that coffee shops can be catalysts for connection — places where ideas are shared, collaborations begin, and people feel seen and valued.
Under her direction, Blak Koffee Cafe has become known not only for its handcrafted drinks and inviting atmosphere, but for the sense of belonging guests experience the moment they walk through the doors.
For Ronyale, Blak Koffee is more than a business — it is a legacy built on vision, resilience, community, and love.
Kevin Smith.
Behind Blak Koffee Cafe is the heart, leadership, and unmistakable presence of Kevin Smith — co-founder, mentor, community advocate, and a man deeply committed to serving the city of Louisville.
For years, Kevin dedicated his life to protecting and uplifting the community through his career in law enforcement. His service to the city extends far beyond his profession — rooted in a genuine passion for guiding others, building relationships, and creating positive change. Known for mentoring young men and leading by example, Kevin believes that encouragement, discipline, and opportunity can transform lives.
At Blak Koffee Cafe, that same spirit of service and connection is felt the moment guests walk through the door. Whether he is greeting first-time visitors or welcoming regulars back “home,” Kevin has helped create the culture and energy that make the café feel so personal and unforgettable.
Customers have come to love his signature greetings delivered in his deep, smooth baritone voice — often compared to the legendary Barry White — bringing warmth, laughter, and personality into the space every single day. It is not uncommon to find him gifting books to children who visit the café, encouraging them to read, dream bigger, and believe in their future. For him, every interaction is an opportunity to pour into someone else's life.
Through faith, service, leadership, and love for his community, Kevin continues to leave a lasting impact on Louisville — one relationship at a time.

From belief to brick & mortar.
Kevin and Ronyale saw a neighborhood rich in culture but underserved in spaces that welcomed business, relaxation, and community under one roof. Blak Koffee began as an answer to that gap.
Our flagship café opened in the Village @ West Jefferson in the Russell neighborhood — quickly becoming a daily gathering place for professionals, neighbors, students, and retirees alike.
A second location opened inside the Goodwill Opportunity Center on West Broadway, extending our mission of access, opportunity, and exceptional coffee deeper into the community.
Two locations, full-service catering, private event rentals, and a standing invitation to everyone. We continue to invest in minority-owned suppliers and create pathways to economic opportunity.
Four pillars, one purpose.
We celebrate and honor Black culture's profound impact on our neighborhood, city, and beyond.
From professionals to neighbors, students to retirees — everyone belongs at our table.
High-quality food and beverages with exceptional service and genuine hospitality, without exception.
We invest in the West End and open real pathways to economic opportunity.
Come find your seat at the table.
Whether it's a morning latte, a team lunch, or your next event — there's always a place for you at Blak Koffee.
